With the children - Alkmaar

Alkmaar Cheese market:  a wonderful day out with the kids.

Alkmaar Cheese market is a very nice and free day out with the kids.
The whole spectacle is an impressive thing for kids to see. Also there are other different activities for the children to take part in. Such as being weighed on the enormous scales, seeing the massive cheeses from close by, ask questions to the carriers or taking part in the special tours for kids at the cheese market.

Get weighed in the Waagtoren

After 11 o'clock the Waagtoren, (Weighing House) with its centuries old scales, is open to the public. Children may stand on the scale to be weighed and receive a certificate stating their weight.

Are you considering a day out with the children? then the Alkmaar cheese market is highly recommended.
Come early enough, so you can find a good spot from where the kids have an excellent view on the spectacle.

Children’s Cheese market

When: on Fridays from the 17th of June until 21th of august 2015
Time: 10:30 - 11:00 & 11:00 - 11:30
Location: VVV Waagplein, Alkmaar Centre

During the cheese market children can, under the supervision of a guide, see the cheeses from close by. The children walk with the guide into the square where the cheese carriers walk with their barrow full of cheese. Afterwards they go into weighing house, where they are weighed one by one on the old scales.
A ´Tasman´ from the cheese carriers’ guild specifies the child’s weight, who receives a certificate with their exact weight on it.   Be on time - full is full!
